Would you like to have a go on the climbing walls at The Ridge Climbing Centre, Goyt Mill? I would like to gauge interest in this activity which could become a regular event if there is ongoing enthusiasm. If you have never before thought about tackling a climbing wall, take a look at their website The Ridge Climbing climbing Goyt Mill, Upper Hibbert Lane, Marple, Stockport, UK
Climbing is not just great fun; having a go at something new and different is brilliant for self-esteem and there are real benefits for physical fitness to add to the mix.
I have been in touch with The Ridge and this is what they told me:
Cost:
They provide an hour of climbing for £12.50 per climber plus £22.50 per instructor - 1 instructor is required for every 8 climbers. For group of 8 this works out at £15.30 per head. For a smaller group the instructor charge would have to be split between a smaller number of participants which would increase the cost per head.
Although they charge for the "required" number of instructors, they typically have many more on hand so everyone gets plenty of climbing done.
When wouLd the Session Take Place
There is usually good availability in the daytime, but they sometimes have school groups in. When I know more about the availability of interested members I can let The Ridge know what would work for us
What to Wear
You don’t need anything special, just comfy clothes you can move around in and some clean trainers. Climbing shoes are available for anyone that wants to try them out.
Liability Waivers
With a group activity there is a generic waiver that everyone must complete – a link to the booking is sent through for everyone to register and complete online. If anyone later decides to attend independently, another more in-depth waiver is required.
Interested?
If you would like to join in a trip to The Ridge please let me know asap by email to: caroline.ley@btinternet.com To narrow down the options I suggest that we look at a Tuesday or a Friday morning for the first session, but other options can be considered, just say if you have a particular preference.
