Abigails Party - Theatre Visit

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the theare visit to Abigails Party.

It is described as a tragic comedy and has at its heart the domineering hostess, Beverley, forcing ‘ciggies’, cheesy nibbles and copious amounts of booze on her ill matched guests, the newly arrived neighbours ‘Ange and Tone’. Late to the party is Sue, a very anxious, uneasy mother of a 15 year old who is having THE PARTY across the road and who was clearly expecting more food than just the nibbles and numerous G&Ts.
Written by Mike Leigh for Alison Steadman, who played the perfectly cringe worthy Bev. on the television, this recreation of the iconic 1970s harridan (Kym Marsh), belittling her husband and blatantly lusting after ‘Tone’ the ex footballer, was just as outrageous and as funny as the original but in this performance she was often difficult to hear, so some of the clever dialogue was lost on the audience. The ending was tragic and sobering. An enjoyable visit once again to this lovely theatre.
